Rockland County New York has voted to ban the use of trans fats. In an interview I heard on WCBS 880 Radio, one legislature was quoted as saying:
“We are doing this to help consumers make better choices.”
How does this help the consumer to make a choice? You help people make choices by requiring food to be labeled, as we do in Philadelphia, giving consumers the tools to make a more informed decision.
Taking away a choice does not help people make better choices, it forces a choice on them.
